Steps for Video Editing

Here is a quick reminder of the filming to editing process.

  1. Gather clips- Use your device to film various clips related to your theme. Remember to get wide shots, full shots, mid shots, and close ups. Think about camera angles and have a couple of shots were you have some camera movement.

  2. Transfer clips- Now get your clips from your device into google drive or on to your computer. (If you are using your phone to edit your clips together you can skip this step.)

  3. Organize clips in folders- File Management is key to finding your stuff easy and speed up your workflow.

  4. Import clips into editing program- Getting your files nto your video editing program of your choice. Trimming clips down, order clips in the timeline so your story flows.

  5. Adding Eye and Ear Candy- Place titles, music, sfx and transitions to enhance the overall experience for your audience.

  6. Save- Save often, don't move file location or rename the files in the reference folder, You will regret it because the links will be messed up. Once you have imported the original files into premiere dont touch the original files.

  7. Exporting- Get your movie file from the editing program into a video format your audience can view. The most common video file format is H:264 which creates an .mp4 file format.

If you can remember these 7 steps, you are on your way to understanding how to capture, edit and showcase your work.
