Image Theft or Art?

Ask your parents or someone over 40 if they have ever heard of the Marlboro man? Ask them to tell you a little of what they know about the Marlboro man.

If someone was to photograph one of your pictures that you folks have been creating through this semester, how would you feel? You might feel flattered, Charles Caleb Colton famous quote “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.” .

What if someone was to take a screenshot of one of your instagram posts, or Facebook, or other social media platforms you use and passed it off as their work in a series for a gallery showing?

What if they sold the photo or screenshot of your work and sold it for more than $90 000.00. Would that make you upset?

I want you to take a position on this issue and tell me how you feel about an American Artist named Richard Prince. Watch the following video and tell me if you believe he is an artist or is he a thief? Give me your personal reaction and why you feel the way you do.
